I guess I'll have to point out that I do not follow the fandom and quite frankly have no idea what's going on there. I simply love my evil-but-redeemable emo boys so here I am. I ended up naming him Val in the game and it's also kinda Vald at the same time in my head. The reason is because he clearly didn't want anything that was like the old ones, and I didn't exactly want to pick a Japanese/Inazuma-style because I wasn't sure if he's ready for that lmao. So I picked Val(d) because 1. his appearance reminds me of the sound "va", 2. I googled it and Vald/Valdr is Old Norse for "wielder/ruler" BUT at the same time, it means "guilty of" and I just thought that was interesting.
How did I become a Scara fan? Well. I started playing Genshin at a pretty early point, it was during Klee's first banner. This means that I was there to play the Unrecoiled Stars event. As soon as I saw Scara I thought, man, what a design! This character can't be some rando, he needs to be someone who will appear later as well. Then it turned out that he's a Harbinger so yes, he would appear later. However, before Inazuma was even released, I already kind of played all the missions that were available and explored almost all of the existing map, and I grew bored of the game. When Inazuma was released, I came back to play through the story just to see Scara. During this time I was playing a bit, but I didn't like exploring Inazuma as the enemies felt too difficult. This resulted in me not playing almost at all between Inazuma and Sumeru, so I missed the Irodori festival, for example. However, with Sumeru's release, I came back when Scara's banner arrived. At first I lost my 50/50 to Mona, but luckily was able to pull one copy of the Wanderer anyways. Now I've been playing more, building my characters better than I did back then and exploring, and it's been quite fun again since I'm not burned out and I have plenty of missions in the game waiting, even now, months after I returned.
Something about Scara's design and attitude was likeable to me. I initially wished he had looked a bit older (Genshin in general has a babyface "problem" in the sense that all characters look very youthful in the style). But I've grown to like him the way he is. Since the beginning, I wished he would become playable. Also, I have a soft spot for characters that act like jerks but have vulnerability in them, it makes me feel very soft. As well as characters with an edgy side to them. :]
If you are interested, I wrote a little bit about my opinion on different Scara ships. I am being very polite, but you should not read it if you feel that something like "I don't ship it" offends you. Also, I'm not much of an artist, but you can see my Genshin fanarts here.
